Vitamins are organic compounds necessary to carry out many metabolic processes, but are not energy or building materials. Some of them are produced by the human body, but often in insufficient quantities, therefore it is assumed that all vitamins should be supplied with food or, if necessary, with pharmaceutical preparations. Vitamins influence many mechanisms in the body, they are components of enzymes or coenzymes, and their properties are often similar to hormones.
- Vitamin A - plays an important role in the vision process, is a growth factor of the body, and regulates the growth of epithelial and bone tissue; affects the condition of mucous membranes and has anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer effects.
- Vitamin D - takes part in the regulation of calcium-phosphate metabolism and the formation of teeth and bones; participates in the regulation of blood pressure and influences the proper condition of the skin and hair,
- Vitamin E - acts as an antioxidant in reactions taking place in the body, participates in the creation of anticoagulant substances and prevents the breakdown of red blood cells,
- Vitamin K - affects the blood clotting process and is also responsible for proper bone calcification; has anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties,
- Vitamin B1 - participates in the proper functioning of the nervous system; affects the proper functioning of the cardiovascular system; takes part in metabolic reactions and enzymatic processes,
- Vitamin B2 - plays an important role in regulating the functioning of the circulatory, nervous and immune systems and affects the functioning of the organ of vision and the proper condition of the skin,
- Vitamin B12 - plays an important role in the formation of blood components and nerve sheaths; regulates the functioning of the digestive system
- and takes part in the metabolism of proteins, fats and carbohydrates,
- Vitamin C - affects the proper condition of the skin, wound healing and stimulates the production of collagen; regulates blood pressure, thus preventing ischemic heart disease; affects the absorption of calcium and iron and participates in the metabolism of folic acid.
